I love the idea of a cheap woven basket with a red and white checked towel in it (probably $1 each at Walmart) and then putting Chianti bottle candles in it. The obvious problem is you'd need to buy and drink the Chianti ahead of time. Then you could maybe arrange some breadsticks around it, or some red and green grapes....or something with the flag colors of red, green and white. Very easy if you can just drink that wine! |

Italy is all about food! So anything that can go into a basket that would invoke thoughts of Italian food would be great. Wine (can be non-alcoholic), cheese, grapes, tomatoes, olives. Put it in silver, or glass trays or in cute baskets. Use grapevine and ivy on the table. And oh, flowers I think cut flowers placed in baskets would be nice too. It also makes me think of painting, So maybe a picture of the couple on some little easels with nice little paint brushes and some satiny material or tulle draped around them, or something like that. In my opinion, any table set with glass and silver gives a nice romantic feel. Have fun! |

It depends. How Italian are you (or your soon-to-be-inlaws)? If you or they are moderately Italian, several generations removed from the Old Country, go for grapes, cheese, little Italian pastries, red wine or candles in straw-wrapped Chianti bottles, and red-white-and-green decorations. If we're talking seriously and recently Italian, you have to take the region into account. Traditional Neapolitan decorations and refreshments are not going to impress in-laws from Istria, and vice-versa. Find out what's customary for their region, and follow suit. |
