Question: Wedding invitation help!?
(Posted by: Katie on 2010-07-14 05:40:32)
I bought one of those DIY wedding ivitation kits so I'm printing my wedding invitations myself and I basically need to know word- for- word what the invitations should say if my parents are paying for the whole wedding and if the reception is at the same place as the ceremony. I'm kind of in a rush to get the invites out so any help is appreciated! Thanks! |

It doesn't matter who is paying, as that's really nobody's business. It's the host(s) that are listed on the invitation. Paying doesn't always equal hosting. As for the reception being in the same place, usually people put "reception to follow immediately " or "reception immediately following ". |

Well the DIY at home/ print your own invites I bought has pre printed wording. All you have to do is choose which wording you like and enter all the neccesary information. I got mine at Wal Mart. Try the Best Occasions invitations. |

This site is full of options, here is the link to the site if your parents are hosts: verseit.com/ VerseIt_Verses.cfm?SR= 1 Here is the main link on their site, choose "Wedding " and go from there: verseit.com/ VerseIt_VerseChoices.cfm My only comment is if you put your parents names on, make sure you mention the grooms parents, too, or you might offend them. If you do one where your parents are inviting it could read: George & Sally Jones invite you to the marriage of their daughter Mary to John Smith Son of Jim & Terry Smith .... That way, your parents are inviting, but the grooms parents have been mentioned, too. |

First Line: Name of the Hosts "Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Smith " = one host "Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Smith & Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Johnson " = two hosts skip this line if you're hosting yourself and reword the next line to be passive voice "The honor of your presence is requested at... " Second Line: Informs people of the type of event "request the honor of your presence " = formal, ceremony in a church "request the pleasure of your company " = formal, ceremony not in a church "invite you to " or similar = informal ceremony Third line: Relationship of the host to the couple "at the wedding/ marriage/ union of their daughter " Fourth line: Names Fifth line: Date (spell everything out unless it's informal) "Saturday, the Seventeenth of July " Sixth line: year, (usually gets its own line if spelled out, but depends on spacing) "Two Thousand Ten " (if you want to be super formal, "In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Ten ") Seventh line: time (spelled out unless it's formal) "at half past three in the afternoon " "at two o'clock in the afternoon " Eight line: location "Christ the King Cathedral One Main Street Anytown, State Ninth line: if the reception is at the same place as the wedding, include "Reception to follow " (in smaller or different font). If it is in a different location, you should include a reception card with the time and address on that. So, in the case of a formal wedding at a non-church with a reception at the same location and one host: Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Smith request the pleasure of your company at the marriage of their daughter Jane Smith to Michael Johnson Saturday, the Seventeenth of July two thousand ten at half past five in the evening Christ the King Cathedral One Main Street Anytown, Florida Reception to Follow --- "It doesn't matter who is paying, as that's really nobody's business. It's the host(s) that are listed on the invitation. Paying doesn't always equal hosting. " Traditionally, paying does equal hosting. |
