Can bride wear dressy pants to wedding rehearsal dinner?

Question: Can bride wear dressy pants to wedding rehearsal dinner?

(Posted by: Bri on 2010-04-28 08:02:52)

I'm the bride and we're having our rehearsal dinner in a regular casual Italian restaurant and the rehearsal at a church. I don't like wearing dresses, unless I have to. I want to wear black dress slacks and a black and white blouse. I do have a black dress I could wear but no low heels and I don't feel like spending the money to buy more shoes though I could wear what I have. I know my mother will be in pants, I don't even think she owns a dress. My FMIL I heard went out a and bought a dress, not that I care lol. I went to one rehearsal dinner where the bride wore a summer dress and I wore black pants and a sweater and was fine. So can I wear pants? I read websites that say the bride should look the best out of everyone and be the most dressed up. We frequent the restaurant where the dinner will be held often and you can wear jeans, sweats pants, whatever. So you do not need to be wearing a dress.

Ugh. There's more misinformation about weddings on the internet than truth! It all depends on the type of restaurant and, maybe more importantly, who is hosting it. I think your outfit sounds fine, but since rehearsal dinners are often paid for by groom's family, if that's the case here, I'd do her the courtesy of running it by her. But the bride being the most dressed up is nonsensical.

Just because the websites say it doesn't mean you have to do it. If you are comfortable in black pants, go ahead and wear black pants. It's a rehearsal dinner, it's not like it's the Big Day. (And even if it were, you could STILL wear black pants if you wanted to - your wedding, your choice. Everyone else can just suck it up.).

Definitely! The bride gets to wear whatever she wants!

You should look the best in some cases but if you're under alot of stress even a pretty sun dress wont cover it up. Try to look good and relaxed. Little sun dresses are always cute, maybe go to a local thrift store and find something. Or you could even borrow clothes from a sister or friend. Just keep it on the down low you borrowed. Relax and have fun. Congrats! Oyea.. if you wear those black dress pants try to wear a very pretty bright shirt. Not black or white. Maybe pink or green!

The only thing you need to consider about how to dress is whether or not it is apporpriate dress for the establishment you are going to. ladies where pants in church all the time these days so that part is not the issue, the issue is the restaurant where the dinner is to be held. if it is a casual italian restaurant, then nice dress pants and a pretty blouse are fine. i did a wedding a couple of years ago where the rehearsal dinner was held at a sports park and everyone wore jeans and sweaters. don't get bogged down with feeling guilty about such things....just be comfy and have a good time.

You don't HAVE to wear a dress. You can wear whatever you want. Its YOUR rehearsal dinner.

As long as the dress fits the place you are going to for the dinner, you should be fine. If it is casual, the dress can be casual too. For my rehersal dinner, we had it catered (a great local BBQ), so I said the dress was casual. I wore jeans and a nice shirt, my husband wore a t shirt. I figured, since I have to be all dressed up the next day, this day would be casual. My bridesmaids told me: It's your rehersal, you pick the attire. No one had a problem with it.

Wear what you want to and what you feel comfortable in.. its your wedding right? you can make any decision you want.. theres no written rule that you cant wear this or that at a rehearsal....

Yes, absolutely you can wear pants. You should wear something that makes you feel comfortable and stylish, and there is no rule requiring that the bride be the fanciest of all. After all, everyone at the rehearsal dinner already knows you're the bride, so you don't have to dress for them. Choose the outfit that makes you happy and is appropriate for the location.

Wear whatever you like. You sound like you will be dressed appropriately and it's just dinner.

Pants are fine, but a nice colorful blouse might be better than black and white.
