Any good wedding tips?

Question: Any good wedding tips?

(Posted by: on 2011-11-07 11:37:26)

My fiance and I are going to be getting married sometime next week and we have kind of started our planning but we are on a really low budget. We don't want a huge wedding but we do want mostly close family and friends there so I was just asking around for any good money saving tips so that we can let all of our family and friends be present but still have a great wedding. I'm sorry I did not proof read that very well. I meant next year.

The best tip is this, firstly you say your on a budget but what is it? You need to set one so that you know what your working with. Sit and make a list of everything that you think makes up a wedding. Once you have your budget, then look at the list and take off the things that you feel wouldnt change the wedding whether you had it or not e.g. wedding favours. This is how you save money. There are lots of little traditions that people do for weddings that dont need to be done and dont affect the experience of the day. Also consider things like having artificial flowers instead of real ones as they are cheaper etc. Also tell everyone that your getting married as you will be surprised how many people know someone who can do flowers, photos, djing etc.

The biggest wedding expense is the food. So, have your reception during a non meal time hour and just serve appetizers. You can order ready made food from a restaurant that caters as it is very affordable and saves you the stress of shopping, preparing and storing the food yourself so you can be doing other things the days prior to the wedding. Have a small sweetheart cake for you and the groom and then have a sheet cake in the kitchen to plate for the guests. Buy your dress at a consignment shop or off of a sales rack. Wear shoes you already own. Ask any brides maids to pick their own dresses in a certain color. Grow your own flowers or order them from a grocery florist shop.

Well, I don't know what your budget is. What some people consider a low budget might be a high budget to someone else and visa versa If you are getting married in a hotel, country club, catering hall, etc., get your wedding cake from either them or one of their preferred vendors. Otherwise, this may mean a cake-cutting fee, where the venue will decorate the plate, maybe add a chocolate-covered strawberry, etc., for an extra $5 a plate. This adds up quick If you're wanting to go to a resort hotel for your wedding... don't. I worked in this field for a while... don't do it. If you want this type of setting, I suggest going to a catering hall or a country club with a similar setting (whether it be beach, garden, urban, etc). You will save yourself thousands and thousands of dollars on room rental fees, catering, etc. Use banquet chairs already provided, if this is an option... avoid using chiviari chairs. A lot of the time, they can cost extra (up to $35 a person, being cheap), they aren't comfortable, they break. They just look nicer, but I don't really think it's worth the cost. If where you are getting married already has ceremony/ banquet chairs, use them For things like linens, favors, or decorations, you would put crafting skills to work, or you could even shop around on Etsy. I have found really decently priced table linens on Etsy before, as an example. Then again, a lot of these things could still be really, really expensive for a lot of people. What's the general range that you're willing to spend on certain things? Food? Linens? Flowers?

It depends upon how much you want to have to do yourself. the cheapest way to have a lovely wedding is normally to look into your local parks and recreation department. they always have nice places like a pretty gazebo or rose garden or a lake side for nearly nothing for ceremonies and they rent their pavilions or community centers or historical buildings for very low prices for the reception. if you want to have someone else do the work for you or have help with all the planning, a good low cost way to go is with local bed and breakfasts or wedding chapels in your area. for more specific help, you can repost and tell us what city and state you want to get married in, about how many guests you want to have and about how much you have to spend or think you will have, and we can give you links to get places where you can get it done.
